A major maritime security scare has erupted in the Gulf of Aden after a tanker was reportedly boarded by six armed individuals and diverted toward Somalia. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said the vessel was approached by an unauthorised craft about 136 nautical miles east of Mukalla, Yemen. The attackers reportedly took control of the tanker and changed its course, though the identities of those involved and the condition of the crew remain unconfirmed. The incident comes as Yemen’s Houthis claim to have forced dozens of Saudi oil tankers to turn back, escalating fears over shipping security across the Red Sea and Arabian Sea.
