Why were journalists covering the anti-CEC protests in Delhi detained when they were there to report on the events? In the latest episode of Prasang, TOI’s Prasad Sanyal & Prabhash Jha discuss the recent protests, the detention of journalists, police action, and the heckling of journalists by protesters. The conversation explores press freedom, police accountability, the right to peaceful protest, and the responsibility of both authorities and protesters to respect journalistic independence. They also debate restrictions on designated protest sites, political double standards, and whether the violent protests in Bangladesh should serve as inspiration for movements in India. Should journalists be protected while reporting from the ground? Does restricting dissent pose a threat to democracy? Watch the full discussion on Prasang.
