In 1928, a US Navy personnel came to a California island and lived alone for 28 years as an unofficial caretaker. Today, a popular spot in the Channel Islands bears his name - The Economic Times

Raymond LeDreau lived as an unofficial caretaker on Anacapa Island for nearly twenty-eight years. He served in the Spanish-American War and lost his wife during the 1918 influenza pandemic. LeDreau supported himself through lobster fishing and guarding liquor during Prohibition. A cliff fall at eighty forced his removal to the mainland, after which he vanished. Frenchy's Cove on West Anacapa Island is named in his honor.
