More than 33,853 people have lost their lives on Indias National Highways in last seven months, exposing the continuing human cost of road crashes even as the country pours massive investments into world-class road infrastructure. The Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, one of Indias most ambitious highway infrastructure projects, alone recorded 133 deaths in 165 accidents, while the Amritsar–Jamnagar Expressway reported 67 fatalities in 57 crashes.The Delhi–Mumbai Expressway witnessed 165 accidents, resulting in 223 injuries and 133 fatalities during the period. The Amritsar–Jamnagar Expressway recorded 57 accidents, leading to 82 injuries and 67 deaths, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
