JD Vance's remark about “tin-pot dictators” driving up gas prices has prompted an awkward comparison with President Donald Trump. Speaking at a Republican rally in Montana, the vice president acknowledged that fuel prices remain high and argued that global crises can send costs soaring whenever a dictator “decides to throw a tantrum.” Critics have suggested the description could also apply to Trump, whose administration launched the war with Iran in February. The conflict has pushed up energy prices ahead of the November midterm elections. Vance did not name Trump in the remark, and the comparison is a criticism of his statement, not an accusation he made himself.
