The United States is reportedly warning allies that deliveries of vital missiles and air-defence systems could be delayed by as much as five years after the war against Iran depleted American stockpiles faster than factories can replenish them. Bloomberg reports that Germany’s requested Tomahawk missiles and Typhon launchers may not arrive within five years, while Japan could wait up to two years for its Tomahawks. Estimates cited by the outlet suggest Washington used more than half of its advanced Patriot interceptors, approximately one-third of its Tomahawk inventory and nearly half of its Precision Strike Missiles and THAAD interceptors during the Iran campaign. Donald Trump has denied that the war created an ammunition shortage, but the Pentagon inspector general has acknowledged strategic inventory shortfalls and industrial bottlenecks. Ukraine faces the most immediate consequences, with Volodymyr Zelensky saying Kyiv received only around one-third as many air-defence missiles in 2026 as it did during the corresponding period last year. America intended the Iran war to demonstrate overwhelming military strength; instead, it exposed the limited depth of its missile reserves and the inability of its defence industry to replace them quickly.
