At the centre of the controversy is Starlink, the satellite internet network that has played a crucial role in Ukraine’s military communications and drone warfare against Russia. Democrats have raised concerns over allegations that Starlink services in Ukraine were throttled, questioning whether a private billionaire should have the power to influence the course of a war. Musk has blamed the White House for the decision, while President Donald Trump has said he was unaware of it. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also urged US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to restore Starlink services.
