Suvendu Adhikari’s government has set up 11 holding centres across West Bengal under its “detect, delete and deport” policy targeting illegal immigrants. Around 335 detainees, including men, women and children, are currently housed in these facilities pending nationality verification and deportation procedures. Meanwhile, India has referred over 2,680 suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrant cases to Bangladesh for nationality verification, with the MEA saying deportation can begin once identities are confirmed.
