Russia has offered to help seek a diplomatic settlement to the US-Iran confrontation, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov calling for the restoration of stability and freedom of navigation around the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking alongside Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Lavrov blamed what he called “unprovoked US-Israeli aggression against Iran” for the crisis and said Moscow was ready to assist in finding “mutually acceptable solutions.” He welcomed Tehran’s stated commitment to diplomacy and called for guarantees that such military action would not be repeated. Araghchi separately blamed the United States and Israel for insecurity around the Gulf and Hormuz, arguing that regional problems have no military solution. Both officials also raised concerns about an attack on Iranian and Russian vessels in the Caspian Sea. Lavrov praised international mediation efforts to secure an agreement that could restore long-term stability and maritime navigation.
