Classic Buttermilk Pie

Zutaten:

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch (23 cm pie crust)
  • 1 ½ cups 300 g granulated sugar
  • ½ cup 115 g unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup 240 ml buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (for a traditional touch)

Arbeitsschritte:

  • Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar and melted butter until smooth.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, whisking well after each addition.
  • Pour in the buttermilk, then mix until combined.
  • Add the flour, vanilla extract, salt, and nutmeg (if using). Whisk until the mixture is smooth and slightly creamy.
  • Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.
  • Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the center is set but still has a slight jiggle.
  • Let the pie cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1–2 hours before serving.
