Pressemitteilung: Local content rules: Study highlights challenges for European truck manufacturing / A new study commissioned by ACEA and carried out by Ricardo finds that some “made in the EU” requirements proposed in the Industrial Accelerator Act could be particularly challenging for European truck manufacturers. The EU is moving towards greater use of “made in the EU” requirements for vehicle components to strengthen European production capacity and reduce strategic dependencies. The proposed Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) would introduce such requirements for access to public money, such as public tenders, purchase subsidies and tax benefits for purchasing or using battery electric, fuel cell and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Battery localisation emerges as a key challenge. If the IAA entered into force today, around half of medium and heavy trucks produced in Europe would not meet the local content requirements for “made in the EU” battery cells foreseen for European public procurement and subsidy programmes.
