In 1849, an Italian-born inventor developed an early device for voice communications but couldn't afford a full patent due to financial hardship. Antonio Meucci created the Telettrofono years before the telephone patent was granted to Alexander Graham Bell. Financial struggles, injuries, and unpaid patent renewal fees affected his claim. His work was later recognized by the United States House of Representatives in 2002 for helping lay the foundation for voice communication technology.
